EVALUATION OF EFFICACY AND SAFETY OF PLATELET RICH PLASMA (PRP) IN THE TREATMENT OF ANDROGENIC ALOPECIA AND BACTERIAL ULCERATIVE LESION

In 2018, a study involving 64 patients with androgenic alopecia assessed the effectiveness and safety of Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment. Patients aged 18-48 received 4-5ml of PRP injections in the bald area over 3-6 sessions at 2-4 week intervals. The study found that all patients responded to the treatment, with 30% new hair growth, increased hair thickness, and a negative pull test. The effectiveness was directly related to the number of sessions and inversely related to the interval duration between sessions. No adverse side effects were reported. Additionally, a 45% response rate to PRP treatment was observed in patients with secondary bacterial infections due to Staphylococcus aureus. The study concluded that PRP therapy was a safe and effective treatment for androgenic alopecia in both sexes.
