TLDR The lotion and shampoo effectively treated scalp seborrheic dermatitis.
The study evaluated the effectiveness of a 10% sulfacetamide sodium scalp treatment lotion in a 10% urea vehicle and a 10% urea deep cleansing antibacterial shampoo for treating seborrheic dermatitis of the scalp. The nonrandomized, open-label study involved 37 patients aged between 18 and 85 years with moderate or greater severity of the condition. Over a 2-week period, patients used the treatment lotion once daily, three times per week, along with the shampoo as needed. Following this, they maintained a daily regimen with the shampoo for 4 more weeks. Significant improvements in dandruff, scaling, erythema, and itching were observed after 2 weeks, and these improvements were maintained throughout the study. All but 3 patients experienced complete eradication of symptoms. The study concluded that the combination of sulfacetamide lotion and 10% urea antibacterial shampoo is effective and safe for treating seborrheic dermatitis symptoms on the scalp.
