TLDR Low-level laser therapy reduces symptoms and inflammation in frontal fibrosing alopecia.
The study evaluated the effectiveness of low-level laser therapy (LLLT) in treating frontal fibrosing alopecia (FFA) in a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with 37 female participants, of which 35 completed the study. Participants used a cap device with 246 LEDs emitting at 630 nm for 10 minutes daily over 6 months. Results showed statistically significant improvements in local symptoms, such as reduced pruritus (p = 0.002) and burning sensation (p = 0.013), and a decrease in perifollicular erythema. There was also a slight progression in frontal regression (8.7 cm to 9.0 cm; p = 0.05). The study concluded that LLLT had anti-inflammatory and symptom-relieving effects in FFA.
