TLDR Drug repurposing can be cost-effective but needs more testing for safety and effectiveness.
This study conducted at Santhiram Medical College and General Hospital analyzed 157 case files to explore drug repurposing, identifying nine drugs with new therapeutic indications. Aspirin and Dapagliflozin were the most frequently identified, with notable changes in drug categories, dosage, and frequency observed for several drugs, including Atorvastatin and Gabapentin. The study underscores the potential of drug repurposing as a cost-effective strategy, highlighting the need for further clinical validation to ensure safety and efficacy, thereby benefiting healthcare systems and patients.
