TLDR Psoriasis is the most common cause of erythroderma, and proper medical follow-up is crucial.
This study evaluated the clinico-etiological and histopathological correlations in erythroderma at S.C.B. Medical College, Cuttack, from 2021 to 2022. It involved detailed clinical examinations of patients with erythema and scaling affecting more than 90% of their skin. Psoriasis was the most common cause (16 cases), followed by idiopathic causes (7 cases), atopic and drug-induced dermatitis (6 cases each), and other conditions like seborrheic dermatitis, contact dermatitis, and malignancy-induced erythroderma. The study concluded that while some etiologies remain unknown, ongoing investigations and follow-ups are crucial. It also emphasized the need to discourage the use of alternative medicines and steroids by untrained practitioners and to raise awareness among patients.
