TLDR Erectile dysfunction in young men is caused by both mental and physical factors and needs a personalized treatment approach.
Erectile dysfunction (ED) is increasingly reported among men under 40, with prevalence rates as high as 35%. This narrative review highlights that ED in young men is a multidimensional condition involving both psychogenic factors, such as performance anxiety and depression, and organic causes, including endothelial dysfunction and hormonal imbalances. Lifestyle factors like pornography use, poor sleep, and lack of physical activity are also linked to ED. Effective management requires a multidisciplinary approach, combining pharmacologic treatments and non-pharmacologic interventions like lifestyle changes and cognitive-behavioral therapy. Comprehensive evaluation and individualized treatment are crucial, and further research is needed to improve outcomes for this population.
