TLDR MEBO ointment helps activate and grow skin stem cells for burn healing.
This study investigated the effects of Moist Exposed Burn Ointment (MEBO®) on the activation and proliferation of epidermal stem cells in 21 patients with partial-thickness burns. By examining the expression of cytokeratin 19 (CK19), a marker for epidermal stem cells, the study found that MEBO treatment enhanced CK19 immune-reactivity, indicating increased stem cell activity. Over 28 days, gradual skin regeneration was observed, culminating in complete regeneration and a return to basal CK19 levels. The findings suggested that MEBO played a role in promoting epidermal stem cell activation and proliferation during burn wound healing.
