TLDR Naproxen can cause serious lung issues, but high-dose aspirin might be safer.
This case study described an 84-year-old male who developed concurrent eosinophilic pneumonitis and diffuse alveolar hemorrhage (DAH) after starting naproxen. Despite extensive testing, no infectious or autoimmune causes were found. The patient was treated with pulse methylprednisolone, leading to rapid improvement and eventual discharge on a prednisone taper. At 1-month follow-up, he was asymptomatic and off supplemental oxygen. This case highlighted a rare but serious complication of NSAID use, particularly naproxen, and suggested that high-dose aspirin might be a safer alternative for pain management in similar patients.
