TLDR Emulgels are effective for delivering skin medications due to their unique gel-emulsion mix.
Emulgels are a novel topical medication delivery system that combines gel and emulsion to effectively transfer hydrophobic medicines into the bloodstream through the skin. This formulation offers advantages such as improved adhesion, spreadability, viscosity, and extrusion, making it an optimal method for incorporating hydrophobic drugs into water-soluble gel bases. Emulgels are particularly beneficial for dermatological applications due to their thixotropy, non-staining, non-greasy nature, easy spreadability, extended shelf life, emollient qualities, easy removal, transparency, and aesthetically pleasing appearance. The study highlights the potential of emulgel-based systems as drug delivery vehicles, emphasizing current advancements and future prospects.
