Comparison of Efficacy of Various Modalities of Treatment in Patients with Androgenetic Alopecia
May 2020

TLDR Using minoxidil daily with monthly minoxidil mesotherapy is more effective for hair loss than monthly PRP microneedling treatments.
In a randomized clinical trial conducted from February 2018 to January 2019, 80 male patients with androgenetic alopecia were treated with either topical 5% minoxidil along with minoxidil mesotherapy or platelet-rich plasma (PRP) microneedling. The study found no significant improvement in either group after 3 months of treatment. However, after 6 months, the group treated with 5% minoxidil showed a significantly better response than the PRP microneedling group. The study concluded that PRP microneedling treatment once a month was not as effective as daily application of 5% minoxidil with once a month 5% minoxidil mesotherapy. The study suggested that PRP, if used as a single treatment modality, would not be effective and should be combined with either topical minoxidil or oral finasteride.
