Efficacy of Letrozole Combined with Cabergoline in Comparison to Letrozole Alone in Ovulation Induction Among Patients with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome and Hyperprolactinemia
January 2020
TLDR Letrozole combined with Cabergoline improves ovulation and pregnancy rates in women with PCOS and high prolactin levels compared to Letrozole alone.
In a clinical trial involving 180 women with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and Hyperprolactinemia (HP), the efficacy of Letrozole (LE) combined with Cabergoline (CE) was compared to LE alone for ovulation induction. Participants, aged 22-38 with serum prolactin levels > 32 ng/ml, were randomly allocated into two groups: Group A (92 participants) received LE and CE, while Group B (88 participants) received only LE. Both groups were matched for age and body mass index. The main outcomes measured were ovulation rate and the detection of chemical and clinical pregnancies. After excluding eight patients due to drug side effects, the study found that the combination of LE and CE significantly improved ovulation rates and clinical pregnancy rates compared to LE alone, suggesting that this combination should be considered as a first-line treatment for anovulatory patients with PCOS and HP.
