TLDR Interventional embolization is effective for treating scalp arteriovenous fistula but can cause complications like swelling and hair loss.
This retrospective clinical study involving 21 patients at Shandong Provincial Hospital assessed the efficacy and safety of interventional embolization for treating scalp arteriovenous fistula (AVF). The study found that interventional embolization, particularly using absolute ethanol, is effective and minimally invasive, with 85.71% of patients cured. Direct puncture was the most common method, used in 42.86% of cases. While the treatment showed significant improvement in vascular structures, some patients experienced complications such as swelling and hair loss. The study highlights the importance of selecting appropriate materials and techniques to optimize outcomes and minimize complications, suggesting further research to enhance treatment efficacy and patient quality of life.
