TLDR Both lasers are equally effective and safe for treating freckles.
This study compared the efficacy and safety of a picosecond alexandrite laser (PSAL) and a Q-switched alexandrite laser (QSAL) for treating freckles in 20 Chinese women. Both lasers showed similar lesion clearance rates (PSAL: 76.9% ± 12%, QSAL: 75.6% ± 13%) with no significant differences in patient satisfaction, pain levels, or adverse reactions. The PSAL used lower fluence to achieve comparable results, and reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) indicated less photothermal damage with PSAL. The study concluded that PSAL is as effective and safe as QSAL for treating freckles in Chinese patients.
