TLDR Finasteride reduces prostate size and PSA levels in young men with hair loss.
The study investigated the effects of finasteride 1mg/day on prostate volume and serum PSA levels in 52 young patients under 40 years old with male androgenetic alopecia (MAA). After 12 months, there was a 10.51% reduction in PSA levels and a 6.3% decrease in prostate volume, with no changes in testosterone levels. These reductions were lower than those observed in older age groups, possibly due to the absence of hyperplasia in the younger cohort. The study raised questions about adjusting PSA values for young patients using finasteride and whether early use could inhibit age-related prostate changes.
