TLDR Some chemicals in cosmetics may harm pregnant individuals, fetuses, and newborns, and should be avoided unless necessary.
The document from September 2020 investigated the potential harmful effects of chemicals in cosmetic products on pregnant individuals, fetuses, and newborns. It found that exposure to these chemicals, particularly during pregnancy, newborn, and adolescent stages, could lead to adverse health effects such as abortion, stillbirth, low birth weight, intrauterine growth retardation, congenital defects, premature birth, certain cancers, infertility, delayed puberty, endocrine system disorders, and some systemic diseases. The document concluded that all cosmetic products should be viewed with suspicion until proven harmless to pregnant individuals, fetuses, and newborns, and should not be used unless necessary. It also called for more studies and public education about the use of cosmetic products during pregnancy.
