TLDR Afoxolaner effectively treats mange in guinea pigs with one dose.
A study investigated the efficacy of oral afoxolaner in treating a severe case of Trixacarus caviae infestation in a pet guinea pig. The guinea pig, suffering from severe dermatological issues, was treated with a single oral dose of 2.50 mg/kg afoxolaner. After 1 week, the lesions improved, although pruritus persisted due to the healing process. By 4 weeks post-treatment, there was a complete remission of clinical signs and no mites were detected microscopically. The study concluded that afoxolaner was safe and effective for treating T. caviae mange in guinea pigs, with no need for repeated doses.
