TLDR Low levels of vitamin B12, iron, ferritin, and zinc are linked to hair loss in Iraqi women.
The study "Effect of Zinc, Iron, Ferritin, Vitamin B12 and thyroid function on hair Loss in Iraq Women" involved 90 participants, 45 of whom were healthy women and 45 were controls, all experiencing diffuse hair loss. The research, conducted between April and December 2022, found no significant difference in thyroid hormone levels (T3, T4, TSH, vitamin D3) among the groups. However, there was a significant difference in the levels of iron, ferritin, zinc, and B12. The study also found a negative correlation between T3 and ferritin, vitamin D3, ferritin, zinc, and TSH, and a strong inverse correlation between TSH and T3, zinc and ferritin, and zinc and T3. The conclusion emphasizes the importance of reduced levels of vitamin B12 and other vitamins as factors contributing to hair loss in women.
