TLDR Thyroid dysfunction worsens symptoms in women with PCOS, so regular thyroid checks are important.
This study investigates the impact of thyroid dysfunction on Body Mass Index (BMI) and hormonal imbalance in women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). Conducted at two medical facilities with women aged 18 to 43, the study found that 73.33% of women with both PCOS and thyroid dysfunction experienced weight gain. Additionally, 80% reported acne, 60% experienced hirsutism, 90% had irregular menstrual cycles, 63.33% experienced muscle weakness and low energy, 73.33% reported depression, and 66.67% reported hair loss. Significant differences in Triiodothyronine (T3) and Thyroxine (T4) levels were observed between PCOS patients with and without thyroid dysfunction. The study concludes that thyroid dysfunction significantly affects T3 and T4 levels in PCOS patients, emphasizing the need for routine thyroid function screening to develop personalized treatment strategies.
