TLDR The school nutrition program improved students' health and reduced vitamin deficiency symptoms.
The study evaluated the impact of a school-based nutritional program (SBNP) on 148 high school adolescents who had difficulty accessing midday meals. The program included four weekly nutrition education sessions and regular school-provided lunches over 3 months. Results showed significant improvements in waist measurements and blood parameters, including erythrocyte, hemoglobin, and hematocrit counts. Additionally, there was a notable reduction in mouth sores, gingival bleeding, and hair loss, which were likely linked to vitamin deficiencies. The study concluded that the SBNP positively affected the students' health and recommended further research with a larger sample and control group.
