Effect of Fluorine and Selenium on MDA Level of Human Scalp Hair Follicle In Vitro

    The study investigated the impact of fluorine and selenium on the lipid peroxide (LPO) level in human hair follicles in vitro. It was found that sodium fluoride at concentrations of 1 mmol/L and 10 mmol/L increased the malondialdehyde (MDA) content, indicating higher LPO levels, while 0.1 mmol/L did not have this effect. Additionally, 0.01 mmol/L sodium selenite was able to reduce the MDA increase caused by 1 mmol/L sodium fluoride but was ineffective against the increase caused by 10 mmol/L sodium fluoride. This suggested that sodium fluoride at certain concentrations elevated MDA levels, and low concentrations of sodium selenite could mitigate this effect at lower fluoride concentrations.
