TLDR Coconut oil effectively treats sore gums from new dentures and is safe, affordable, and heals quickly.
The study surveyed 252 removable denture wearers and found that coconut oil is an effective and safe remedy for managing mucosal changes post-denture insertion, with 93.5% of participants reporting relief from denture sores or ulcers. Coconut oil is preferred over antifungal drugs due to its cost-effectiveness, non-toxicity, and antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties. It also promotes healing, with over 50% of users experiencing improvement within 2 to 3 days. The oil's antimicrobial activity against Candida albicans and Streptococcus mutans further supports its use in oral health maintenance for denture wearers. Despite its benefits, the study suggests the need for further research due to limitations like sample size and demographic variations.
