Minocycline, a tetracycline antibiotic, was FDA-approved in October 2019 for moderate-to-severe acne in patients aged 9 and older. A study with 1,488 patients demonstrated that 4% minocycline foam increased the clearance of inflammatory lesions, with 30.8% of patients achieving treatment success. The editorial also mentioned sarecycline, a narrow-spectrum tetracycline, as an effective treatment for facial, back, and chest acne, emphasizing the importance of antibiotic stewardship to combat resistant bacteria.
