TLDR Mouse embryos can develop in chick embryos, but they grow smaller with some organ issues.
Researchers developed a method to cultivate early mouse embryos (7-8 days old) in the extraembryonic coelom of chick embryos. The mouse embryos were transplanted into 72-80 hour chick embryos and examined after 24, 48, or 75 hours. The embryos continued to develop, with some reaching the 9-day stage, although they were smaller and had some organ size disturbances. This method allows for extended study of post-implantation stages in mammals and could supplement existing techniques for rats and rabbits.
