TLDR The early Iron Age settlement at Raposal shows diverse cultural influences and challenges previous ideas about settlement types in the Ebro Valley.
The archaeological excavation at Raposal in Arnedo, La Rioja, revealed a settlement from the early Iron Age, dated to the early 7th century B.C. through Carbon-14 analysis. The site showed evidence of a single, short-term occupation with three stratigraphic layers, where ceramics and a bronze button were found. The ceramics, categorized as spatulated and common, displayed various decorative techniques, indicating cultural connections with nearby areas like Partelapeña. The study challenged the notion of homogeneous settlement types in the Ebro Valley, suggesting that economic factors influenced the distribution of concentrated and dispersed habitats. Further excavations, especially at the San Miguel site, were anticipated to enhance the understanding of Iron Age occupation in the region.
