TLDR High doses of Lagenaria siceraria fruit powder lower FSH and LH hormone levels in male rats.
The study investigated the dose-dependent effects of Lagenaria siceraria fruit powder (LSFP) on FSH and LH hormone levels in male Wistar rats. Over 8 weeks, rats were administered LSFP at doses of 300, 500, and 1000 mg/kg body weight. Results showed a significant reduction in serum FSH and LH levels and changes in testicular index morphology at the highest dose of 1000 mg/kg, while no significant changes were observed at the lower doses. The effects were attributed to the presence of 5-alpha-reductase enzyme inhibitors and phytosterols in LSFP.
