TLDR The cat's skin condition improved and hair regrew after antifungal treatment.
This case study details the diagnosis and treatment of Microsporum canis-induced dermatophytosis in a 5-month-old domestic cat named Simon. The cat exhibited erythematous and scaly skin, partial alopecia, and follicular casts, but remained active with a good appetite. Diagnosis was confirmed through physical examination, Wood’s lamp test, adhesive tape impression cytology, and fungal culture. Treatment involved weekly application of a topical antifungal shampoo with econazole nitrate and daily systemic itraconazole for two weeks, along with liver and skin supplements. After two weeks, Simon showed resolution of skin symptoms and visible hair regrowth.
