TLDR The optimal gel-mask for hair loss contains 15% nettle juice, 0.5% carbopol ultrez 10 and sodium alginate, 0.1% potassium sorbate, and 0.4% PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil.
In 2019, Fedorovska, Polovko, and Strilets developed a gel-mask composition with nettle juice for the treatment of telogen effluvium, a common type of hair loss in women. The researchers experimented with different ratios of nettle juice and auxiliary substances, gel base samples in combination with essential oils, and varying content of solubilizer PEG-40 hydrogenated castor oil (PEG-40 hсo). The optimal composition was found to be 0.5% carbopol ultrez 10 and sodium alginate, 0.1% potassium sorbate, and 10-20% nettle juice, with the optimal concentration of nettle juice being 15%. The effectiveness of the 0.1% potassium sorbate preservative was confirmed, and the optimal concentration of PEG-40 hco was found to be 0.4%. The study concluded that this composition was optimal for a gel-mask with nettle juice intended for telogen effluvium cutaneous application.
