Development of MALDI-TOF-MS and MALDI-MSI methods for hair analysis and evaluation of cosmetic treatments

    Tatiana Pereira Sartori
This study developed a method using MALDI-MSI to analyze the incorporation of cosmetic oils, specifically argan, avocado, and coconut, into hair fibers. The research demonstrated that these oils are effectively absorbed into the hair, causing modifications in both the cortex and surface of the hair strands. This suggests that such oils not only provide hydration and protection but also have potential as vehicles for active ingredients in treatments, including those for androgenetic alopecia. The method allowed for detailed imaging of ion distribution in the hair cortex, confirming the oils' incorporation and the resulting structural changes.
