TLDR The model using human skin on mice helps study human sebaceous glands.
This study developed a model using human face skin grafted onto nude mice to study human sebaceous gland physiology and pathophysiology. 60 adult male nude mice were used, with 29 completing the study. Androgens were administered to 21 mice, resulting in significant increases in sebaceous gland volume, cell size, and labeling index, indicating androgen stimulation. Control mice showed a decrease in gland volume and labeling index. Additionally, the application of Halowax N-34, a comedogenic substance, led to the formation of microcomedones in the grafts. This model showed potential for future research on human sebaceous glands.
