TLDR The TG5 gene affects beef cattle weight, and the CC genotype leads to higher weights.
The study investigated the TG5 gene polymorphism in 30 beef cattle from Lithuania and its impact on productivity traits. The CC genotype was the most common and associated with higher live weight, hot carcass weight, and carcass weight compared to CT or TT genotypes. The observed heterozygosity was lower than expected, indicating limited genetic diversity. The TG5 gene polymorphism significantly influenced productivity traits, suggesting its potential use in marker-based selection to enhance cattle breeding.
