TLDR Dermoscopy can help diagnose tuberous sclerosis by identifying unique skin patterns.
This study from the Department of Dermatology at AIIMS, Bathinda, explores the use of dermoscopy in diagnosing tuberous sclerosis complex (TS), a rare genetic disorder. The researchers examined 5 patients with TS using a dermatoscope to identify specific dermoscopic patterns that can help differentiate TS from other similar skin conditions. Key findings include the identification of unique dermoscopic features such as yellow dots, pigmented networks, and specific vascular patterns. These features can aid in the early diagnosis of TS, especially when other systemic or cutaneous signs are subtle or absent. The study highlights the potential of dermoscopy as a valuable tool in the clinical assessment of TS.
