TLDR Dermoscopy helps diagnose and classify rosacea by revealing key features.
This study examined the dermoscopic features of rosacea in 85 patients from Greece and Italy, identifying the erythematotelangiectatic subtype as the most common, affecting 52.9% of patients. Linear vessels in a reticular pattern were a key feature, present in 74.1% of cases, with erythema in 69.4%. The study highlighted the variability in dermoscopic features across subtypes, such as papulopustular and phymatous rosacea, which showed more follicular findings. It emphasized that rosacea subtypes often overlap and should be seen as part of a spectrum. Granulomatous rosacea and lupus miliaris disseminatus faciei (LMDF) presented diagnostic challenges due to overlapping features. The study concluded that dermoscopy is valuable for improving the diagnosis and classification of rosacea, despite limitations like its retrospective design and small sample size.
