TLDR Dermoscopy can effectively identify Malassezia folliculitis.
This study focused on the dermoscopic features of Malassezia folliculitis, a condition often mistaken for acne vulgaris. It involved 45 patients diagnosed with Malassezia folliculitis, confirmed by a 10% potassium hydroxide test. Dermoscopy revealed consistent features such as folliculocentricity and perilesional erythema in all patients, with other common findings including dotted/linear/tortuous vessels, dirty white scaling, and hypopigmentation of hair follicles. The study concluded that dermoscopy could effectively identify Malassezia folliculitis, making it a useful tool in clinical settings.

Scalp biopsies are crucial for diagnosing hair loss conditions like Diffuse Unpatterned Alopecia (DUPA) and retrograde hair loss, as treatments like finasteride and dutasteride may not be effective if other conditions are present. Combining PPAR-GAMMA agonists with retinoids could improve treatments for conditions like Lichen Planopilaris.

The DHT itch is linked to hair loss and persists despite finasteride use; switching to dutasteride helped alleviate the itch and promoted regrowth. Some users suggest seborrheic dermatitis as a cause and recommend treatments like medicated shampoos, vitamin D, and minoxidil.
