TLDR Most cats with dermatophytosis had fungal infections, mainly caused by M. canis.
This study investigated dermatophytosis in 69 cats in Yogyakarta, using physical exams, Wood's lamp, and microscopic examination. Dermatophytosis was characterized by multifocal alopecia (75.8%), scale, pruritus, and erythema. 55 cats (79.7%) tested positive for fungal infections. The etiological agents identified were M. canis in 58 cats (84%) and T. mentagrophytes in 11 cats (16%). The gold standard for M. canis identification was the Dermatophyte Test Medium.
