TLDR Hormonal imbalances in women can cause acne, excess hair growth, and hair loss, needing combined medical and mental health care.
Hormonal imbalances, particularly involving androgens, significantly impact dermatological conditions such as acne, hirsutism, and alopecia in women. Disorders like polycystic ovary syndrome exacerbate these issues through elevated androgen levels and insulin resistance. Hormonal acne, often appearing on the lower face, can be treated with hormonal contraceptives, antiandrogens, or isotretinoin. Excessive hair growth and hormonal hair loss, including female pattern thinning and telogen effluvium, require hormonal therapies and cosmetic procedures. Diagnosis involves hormonal profiling and trichoscopy. A multidisciplinary approach, integrating dermatological, gynecological, and endocrine care, alongside mental health support, is crucial for effective management and improved patient outcomes.
