TLDR Dermatologists should be involved in the care of hematology patients due to common skin issues.
The study conducted at King Fahd Hospital of the University over a 13-week period examined 138 patients attending the hematology clinic to identify common dermatological issues. The majority of patients were female (80.4%), with a mean age of 45 years. Hemoglobin levels were below 10 gm/dl in 40.6% of patients. The most frequently observed cutaneous conditions included alopecia (66.7%), pallor (51.4%), hair thinning (20.3%), and skin dryness (35.5%). The study highlighted the importance of dermatological consultations in the management of hematology patients, as these consultations often led to changes in diagnosis and treatment plans. The findings underscored the need for dermatologists to be involved in the care of patients with hematological disorders.
