TLDR Hair loss is linked to heart disease and metabolic syndrome, and while current treatments vary in effectiveness, more research is needed for better solutions.
The 2019 document "Current issues on the genetic implications and treatment of androgenic alopecia" discussed the complex genetic factors involved in androgenic alopecia, a common form of hair loss. It noted a link between early androgenic alopecia and severe coronary heart disease and metabolic syndrome. The treatments available at the time, including Minoxidil, 5-alpha reductase inhibitors, platelet-rich plasma therapy, hormonal therapy, and hair transplantation, had varying effectiveness and were not suitable for all patients. The authors concluded that more research, particularly genetic studies, was needed to develop new treatment approaches.
