TLDR The study suggests using a score of 11 on the mFG scale to diagnose hirsutism in Turkish women, with adjustments for age, skin type, and family history.
In 2013, a study involving 1034 Turkish women evaluated the effectiveness of the modified Ferriman-Gallwey (mFG) scoring system in diagnosing hirsutism. The average mFG score was 3.26±3.81, with higher scores observed in younger, dark-skinned women, and those with a family history of hirsutism, menstrual irregularity, and acne vulgaris. The 95th and 97.5th percentile mFG score values for all participants were 11.00 and 14.00 respectively, which decreased when excluding those with menstrual irregularities and acne vulgaris. The study concluded that an mFG score of 11 should be used as a cutoff for diagnosing hirsutism in Turkish women, but this value should be adjusted based on factors such as age, skin type, and family history.
