TLDR The first Conference for Black Physiologists focused on supporting Black physiologists' careers and included talks, panels, and awards.
The Black in Physiology (BiP) organization, established in 2020, held its inaugural Conference for Black Physiologists (C4BP) from April 25-27, 2021. The conference aimed to support the professional and scientific development of Black physiologists, with around 150 attendees participating. The conference included professional development sessions, scientific talks, and networking opportunities. Highlights included a talk on effective science communication by Stacey Brooks, a discussion panel on the importance of scientific storytelling, and a keynote session featuring Dr. Alencia Washington and Dr. Robert Carter discussing their career paths and the importance of mentorship. The conference also featured poster presentations by junior scientists and the presentation of the first Future of Black in Physiology Award to Heather Beasley, a PhD candidate at Meharry Medical College. The BiP organization has made significant strides in its short existence, including the establishment of Black in Physiology Week and its incorporation as a non-profit organization.
