A Comparative Study of Different Treatment Modalities of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome in Women of Reproductive Age Group at Tertiary Care Centre
TLDR Combining letrozole with metformin is the most effective treatment for inducing pregnancy in women with PCOS.
The study compared different treatments for polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) in 290 women over one year. Results showed that combining letrozole with metformin led to a significantly higher pregnancy rate (23 women) compared to letrozole alone (9 women). Metformin combined with lifestyle modification resulted in better weight reduction than lifestyle changes alone or combined with oral contraceptive pills (OCP). OCP and OCP with metformin significantly reduced hirsutism and acne. Menstrual regularity was best achieved with the combination of OCP and metformin. Overall, the combination of letrozole and metformin was superior for inducing pregnancy compared to letrozole alone.
