TLDR ACD-A gives the highest platelet count for hair rejuvenation, but Sodium Citrate results in less contamination, making it higher quality.
Five years ago, a study was conducted on 50 patients with hair thinning to compare the effectiveness of three different reagents: ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA), sodium citrate, and acid citrate dextrose-A (ACD-A) in preparing platelet-rich plasma (PRP) for hair rejuvenation. The study found that ACD-A resulted in the highest platelet concentration and the best morphology of platelets. However, PRP prepared with Sodium Citrate had the least contamination with red and white blood cells, indicating superior quality. Therefore, while ACD-A may be preferred for a higher platelet count, Sodium Citrate should be considered for preparing high-quality PRP with less contamination.
