Comparative Effects of Zinc Methionylglycinate and Zine sulfate on Hair coat characteristics and zinc concentration in plasma, hair, and feces of dogs
January 2007
TLDR Zinc methionylglycinate at 160 ppm improves dog hair and zinc levels best.
This study compared the effects of zinc methionylglycinate and zinc sulfate on hair coat characteristics and zinc concentration in plasma, hair, and feces of dogs. In the first experiment, 8 female Beagle dogs were divided into 2 groups to compare the two zinc supplements at 120 ppm. Zinc methionylglycinate resulted in better hair growth, higher zinc accumulation in hair, improved alkaline phosphatase activity, and higher plasma zinc levels compared to zinc sulfate. The second experiment used zinc methionylglycinate at 80, 120, and 160 ppm in 9 female Beagle dogs. The 160 ppm level showed the best results in hair growth, zinc accumulation, plasma zinc levels, and enzyme activity, with smoother and less damaged hair compared to 80 and 120 ppm. The study concluded that zinc methionylglycinate at 160 ppm was most effective for improving hair and zinc levels.
