TLDR Commercial and open-source light sheet microscopy systems have advanced through engineer-scientist collaborations, improving imaging quality.
The chapter discusses various commercial and open-source microscopy systems, emphasizing their rapid evolution due to technological advancements and multimodal system integration. It highlights the long history of ZEISS in light sheet microscopy, noting the collaboration between engineers and scientists. The classical light sheet setup introduces new features compared to conventional microscopy, with ZEISS addressing numerous questions to develop a consistent commercial system. The illumination units use a fibered laser source for direct imaging of an optical section at full camera resolution, and special attention is given to the chamber design and sample mounting accessories.
