TLDR The Yorkshire terrier has a genetic hair loss condition not improved by treatment.
A 1-year-old female Yorkshire terrier was examined for poor hair coat condition, which had been present since it was 8 months old and was similar to its father's fur appearance. The dog was on regular external deworming and had been given oral fluralaner (Bravecto™). The examination revealed hypotrichosis and alopecia in dark-haired areas, seborrhea, and superficial folliculitis, but no other abnormalities. Blood tests and checks for ectoparasites and fungi were negative. Microscopic examination of hair follicles showed no improvement in alopecia despite treatment with anti-seborrheic and anti-microbial shampoo, which did control seborrhea and folliculitis.
