TLDR Collagen supplements improve skin, hair, and nails, especially with vitamin C and minerals.
This review highlights the effectiveness of collagen supplementation, particularly hydrolyzed collagen, in improving skin hydration, elasticity, and density, reducing wrinkles, and strengthening hair and nails. The supplementation, typically 2.5-10 g/day over 8-12 weeks, is most effective when combined with vitamin C and trace elements like zinc, copper, and manganese. Marine collagen is noted for its high bioavailability and safety. The review concludes that collagen supplementation supports regenerative and anti-aging processes by providing essential amino acids and stimulating fibroblast activity, though further research is needed to assess long-term efficacy across various collagen sources and demographic groups.
