TLDR Most patients with dermatomyositis had skin rash and were treated with prednisolone and hydroxychloroquine.
The study analyzed the clinical manifestations of dermatomyositis (DM) in 18 patients, with ages ranging from 3 to 72 years and a male to female ratio of 1:8. The most common age group was 46-60 years. Among the patients, 61.1% had DM and 38.9% had amyopathic dermatomyositis (ADM). All patients exhibited skin rash, with Gottron's sign being the most frequent. Other symptoms included itching (72.2%), proximal muscle weakness (61.1%), and hair loss (22.2%). Elevated serum levels of CPK, LDH, SGOT, SGPT, and ESR were observed. Treatment involved prednisolone and hydroxychloroquine, with methotrexate added for severe cases. ADM patients were primarily treated with hydroxychloroquine, with some receiving additional prednisolone.
