TLDR Fenugreek seed extract safely reduces ovarian volume and cyst size in women with PCOS.
In a study conducted on 107 female patients with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), a novel fenugreek seed extract was administered over a 12-week period to evaluate its efficacy in reducing ovarian volume and the number of ovarian cysts. The study was open-labeled, single-armed, and non-comparative. Significant results included a decrease in ovarian volume (p-value 0.0001), with over 65% of patients showing a reduction in cyst size in both ovaries. Additionally, 15 patients became pregnant by the end of the study, 75.67% showed a reduced HOMA Index, 79.5% had regular menstrual cycles, and there was a significant reduction in prolactin levels and hirsutism score (p=0.002). No changes were observed in liver function tests (LFT), kidney function tests (KFT), or hemogram levels. The study concluded that fenugreek seed extract is safe and effective in treating PCOS in women of reproductive age.
