TLDR Lead pollution from the mine harms children's IQ, growth, and health.
The study investigated the impact of lead pollution on children's health in a lead-zinc mine area by comparing 186 children from the smelter district with 156 children from a control group living 40 km away. It was found that children in the observation group had significantly higher levels of lead and zinc in their hair, increased hair loss, and a higher rate of anemia compared to the control group. Additionally, their IQ scores (VIQ, PIQ, FIQ) were significantly lower. The study concluded that lead pollution in the lead-zinc mine negatively affected the IQ, growth, and development of children living in the area.
