Chemotherapieinduzierte Alopezie

TLDR Chemotherapy causes temporary hair loss and discomfort, while tamoxifen has minimal hair effects.
This study investigated the effects of antineoplastic treatment on hair characteristics in 34 women with breast cancer, divided into two groups: chemotherapy (n=17) and tamoxifen (n=17). It found that chemotherapy-induced alopecia developed 3 weeks after the first cycle, with hair density and growth rates normalizing 12 weeks after the last cycle, although hair diameter and shape remained altered. All cases of chemotherapy-induced alopecia were accompanied by trichodynia, affecting quality of life. In the tamoxifen group, only slight indications of reduced hair density in the frontal area were observed, with no significant changes in hair diameter, growth rates, or shape. Further studies were suggested to evaluate hair changes under tamoxifen treatment.
