TLDR Media attention increased oral minoxidil prescriptions for English-preferring patients but not for Spanish-preferring patients.
In a retrospective study at the University of Miami Department of Dermatology, researchers evaluated the impact of media attention on oral minoxidil (OM) prescriptions for hair loss from January 2022 to April 2023. The study focused on a diverse patient population, including a high proportion of females and Spanish language preferring individuals. While a significant increase in OM prescriptions was observed for English-preferring patients 6 months before versus after the media attention (p = 0.03), no statistically significant changes were found for English-preferring patients 3 months before versus after, or for Spanish-preferring patients at both 3 and 6 months intervals. The findings suggest that media attention's impact on OM prescriptions varies across different demographics, warranting further investigation.
